3 days per week 7.5 hours per day
$35-40 per hour plus benefits, depending on experience
To provide legal analysis, information, brief and background writing and for Community Coordination for Women’s Safety specifically for issues related to domestic and sexualized violence, the law and social policy.
In cooperation with the CCWS team, and the EVA BC Executive Director, the Legal Analyst will provide legal and policy analysis and writing and related curriculum development to inform CCWS/EVA BC gender-based violence training, including sexual assault and domestic violence. The work will include:
- Participation on CCWS Projects as required
- Legal and policy analysis and writing, including for papers, information bulletins and briefing notes
- Representing CCWS on provincial groups involving government, community and policing and child protection agency representatives
- Preparing curriculum for workshops in communities and at provincial events
Law degree or related education. Excellent policy analysis and writing ability, understanding of anti oppression frameworks, especially as it relates to gender violence, race, culture, ability and class.
The successful candidate will have excellent legal/policy writing skills, understanding of BC and Canadian legal and political landscape and history; knowledge of Family Law Act; Child Family and Community Service Act; Criminal Law especially related to domestic violence and sexual assault; and privacy legislation. The successful candidate will have an awareness of the non profit, legal sectors and poverty-related law and experience working with a variety of sectors including, marginalized communities and government and policing agencies.
In addition, the candidate will be comfortable working as part of small close-knit team and have demonstrated team building skills, be a feminist, diplomatic and tactful, and have a good understanding and awareness of the intersection of various forms of oppression and colonialism, have a basic understanding of community development work and the unique needs of rural communities.
The candidate is willing to travel to participate in meetings.
