Community group winning fight to save 122-year-old Ming Sun building in Vancouver

After helping to dodge a date with the wrecking ball, supporters of a historic Downtown Eastside building are ramping up fundraising to save and restore it.

The 122-year-old Ming Sun building at 439 Powell St. is an important historical centre for a number of groups, especially the Japanese- and Chinese-Canadian communities in Vancouver, says David Wong, a spokesman for the Ming Sun Benevolent Society.

The building, which stands in the midst of a number of lots believed to be slated for condo development, was deemed a danger by the city last year.
