Comprehensive B.C. poverty reduction plan, not donations, is a long-term solution to poverty

A Georgia Straight article by Trish Garner, a community organizer for the B.C. Poverty Reduction Coalition, describes donations as a common response to poverty. She states that giving to charities provides only short-term relief and that the B.C. government needs to create a comprehensive poverty reduction plan to create a long-term solution.

"Food banks were, in fact, initially meant to be a temporary measure but they have now been around for over 30 years. They have become such a normal part of society that we never question their role and the extent to which they can address these big issues."
