National Welfare Council revived as online hub

A year ago the Conservative government eliminated the budget of the National Council of Welfare (NCW). Since 1969, the NCW has provided welfare and poverty statistics, fact-based social policy resources and served as an advisory group to the federal Minister responsible for the welfare of Canadians. Socially progressive researchers and anti-poverty groups mourned the passing of the council.

But now the Caledon Institute of Social Policy has a plan to revive the NCW as a national online hub called the Canada Social Report which will report on welfare, poverty, EI and other social and inequality indicators.
