Fighting for the right to housing in the courts

The Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario (ACTO), as well as people with lived experience of homelessness, advocacy organizations and community groups from across the country have formed the Right to Housing Coalition to fight to have the right to adequate, affordable housing covered under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Federal and Provincial Attorney Generals are asking the Courts to dismiss the Right to Housing case without a full hearing. They claim the coalition has "no reasonable cause of action" and that it is "plain and obvious" that the case will fail. Their arguments and the coalition's response will be heard on May 27 and 28, 2013 at the Ontario Supreme Court of Justice. See the ACTO website for more information about the case.
