Federal government should apologize to people with disabilities, says parliamentary committee

A report entitled Getting it Right for Canadians: The Disability Tax Credit by the Parliamentary Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities has denounced a letter by Canada Customs and Revenue Agency sent to 100,000 people with disabilities in October 2001 telling them that their Disability Tax Credit was under review.

"CCRA routinely denies the Tax Credit to applicants with severe disabilities," said Tom McGregor, an advocate with the BC Coalition of People with Disabilities. "The Sub-Committee's report documents many of the problems that our clients regularly experience with the Tax Credit, and we are encouraged by many of its recommendations."
