Homeless in the Homeland: A Growing Problem For Indigenous People in Canada's North

A research project looking at homelessness and affordable housing in the Northwest Territories (NWT) has released a short piece that looks very generally at homelessness among Indigenous people in Canada's North.

Today, homelessness and inadequate housing in northern Canada disproportionately afflicts Indigenous people. This is a striking fact in a region where Indigenous people lived very independently (though of course not autarkicly (as a self-sufficient state)) until the second half of the twentieth century. In the years since then both economic development and state initiatives have transformed their lives.
